Another typical use of a broach is to cut splines or a square keyway on objects such as gears, driveshafts, pulleys etc. The amount of material removed by each broach tooth (or chisel) varies with the material being cut. The bend is across the web and along the inside flange of the track or stud. What shapes can you make? We can form any curve shape, including regular arcs, ellipses, polylines and splines. If the curve you need has a radius or a diameter, it is an arc. If the plan or layout shows a grid of points to locate the shape, it is probably an ellipse or a spline. See #3.
