...M60 in lifts, additional surface preparation is required to maintain adhesion between lifts. Scratch or brush the surface of the initial coat to remove the cement skin formed during troweling. This will open the pores before an additional layer of material is applied. Then scratch again with a plasterer's comb to create more surface area for mechanical bonding. See #1.

2.1 Thin Cement Toppings For portland cement/sand toppings (1 inch or less), use one part Acrylic Ad-Mix 101® to two parts water. Mix to the proper workable consistency for troweling. Do not use a high speed mechanical mixer because this will entrain excessive air. Place the topping mix using a steel trowel, and spread to desired thickness. See #7.

Concrete Technologies of Chicagoland, Inc 866-307-6540
...readily and deepen the color of the concrete above them. Siliceous aggregates, such as gravel, don’t react with the stain. Open finishes achieved by floating followed by minimal troweling take more stain and produce denser colors than do hard-troweled surfaces. However, open finishes can lose color faster if not properly maintained due to... See #8.

Barth’s takes faux finishing to a new level, By Anne Balogh - The Concrete Network
...individually and mask each one off where desired before applying the next layer." Each layer of plaster is hand-troweled with stainless steel or hard plastic trowels. Titan America - How to Buy a Concrete Driveway
If it will be used by cars and light trucks, the slab should be 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 inches thick. Finishing the concrete consists of floating and troweling the surface to the desired smoothness, density and flatness. Good finishing done at the right time gives the concrete a hard, dense surface, making it more durable and impermeable. See #11.

DEPENDABLE GSL
Material should remain highly flowable and can be walked in for over 45 minutes at normal temperatures. Any imperfection can be smoothed by surface troweling or drawing a straightedge or D-3 smoother over the surface. As material gets stiffer and begins to gel, it may be smoothed or troweled to a fine edge. Once... See #12.
