Water-cement ratio

Here's a selection of relevant articles about water-cement ratio from AEC companies and organizations, including Delaware Quarries Inc., Williams Form Engineering and Ventura Cast Stone.

Report Site

Cast Stone Production - By Continental
...every particle of aggregate is completely surrounded by Portland cement. Mineral oxides are added to achieve the desired color. Water content is regularly measured to keep the water-cement ratio as low as possible, thereby increasing the hardness and durability of the Cast Stone. Casting The mix is placed into a sturdy, reinforced moulds, then vibro-tamped by machine. See #1.

Williams Form Engineering Corp. - Post Tensioning Systems Installation
...Tensioning charts for the 150 KSI All-Thread-Bar can be found here. Grouting Grouting equipment shall be capable of properly mixing a water and Portland cement mix having a water-cement ratio of 0.46 (5 gallons water for a 94-lb. sack of cement). Equipment shall be capable of pumping at pressures up to 200 PSI. Standby equipment for flushing must be available. See #2.

Integral Hardening
It also reduces capillarity and channeling. A-H Ahco A/E does not affect setting or hardening times. Spec. 3-6 (Go To Top) A-H Ahco W/R: A Water Reducing Admixture For Lower Water-cement Ratio, Strength Improvement And Improved Workability. A-H Ahco W/R is a synthetically produced liquid admixture. It is a modified organic salt of hydroxylated carboxylic acid. See #3.

Pacific States Pipes
...Analysis Each Shipment Tests by Supplier or Manufacturer Water/Cement Ratio Mix, after spinning, and just before seal coating Weekly or at times when changes are effected Water-Cement ratio Sand/Cement Ratio (mix) Weekly or at change Sand-Cement ratio Spinning Rates and Vibration Weekly or at times of change g-forces applied. Pipe was vibrated-yes... See #4.

Cast Stone Colors
...dosage of pigment Type and dosage of admixtures Type, gradation, color, and cleanliness of fine and coarse aggregates Consistent proportions, especially maintaining a uniform water-cement ratio For every architectural project, once a mix design has been developed, sample panels should be built at the job site. These mockups serve as references... See #5.

IPA Systems
...existing concrete structures Advantages: Economical alternative to epoxy systems Superior physical properties to conventional portland cement mortars Excellent adhesion Low water-cement ratio Eliminates use of convenience water Coefficient of expansion similar to concrete Excellent resistance to de-icing chemicals Excellent workability results... See #6.

Efflorescence - Causes,  Removal, and Prevention
...be taken to preclude the passage of this sulfate-bearing water to the structure. Low absorption is the best assurance against efflorescence. Properly graded aggregates, low water-cement ratio, good compaction and proper curing practices will produce concrete of maximum density and low water absorption. Sand and gravel, in their natural state, ... See #7.

SILPRO
...a low-permeance punctureresistant vapor retarder directly beneath the slab to minimize moisture vapor transmission from the underlying base (Craig 2004), using moderately low water-cement ratio concrete mixtures (Kanare 2005), and allowing an adequate drying period or including acceptable moisture mitigation options as a separate bid item in... See #8.

Davis Colors? - Helpful information and online Chameleon? support.
Maintain 5" (13 cm) maximum slump unless otherwise specified. If higher slump is required, use water-reducing or plasticizing admixtures instead of added water. A low water water-cement ratio minimizes shrinkage and cracking, maximizes hardness and promotes a richer, darker concrete color. Adding water causes concrete to pale or "wash out". See #9.

General Polymers Overview
...and high density to minimize moisture movement within the slab. The following guidelines will yield a suitable concrete mixture: Cementitious Content 517 lbs/cubic yard Water-Cement Ratio 0.40-0.45 Maximum Coarse Aggregate Size 1-1/2" Air Content 4-6% Slump (w/0 high-range Water reducers) inches Slump (with high range water reducers)... See #10.

Concrete News: Is the weather causing problems with your slab?
...placed concrete with L&M E-Con, an evaporation control agent that helps control rapid moisture loss, stickiness and surface wind crusting while aiding in the placement of lower water-cement ratio concrete mixes. See #11.
