Airspace

Here's a selection of relevant articles about airspace from AEC companies and organizations, including Polyisocyanurate Insulation Manufacturer, Decoustics Ltd. and The Carpet Foundation.

corrosion inhibitor
...patented AN-OX® VCI Technology includes a class of chemical compounds that are impregnated into our rust preventative products and emit a rust-inhibiting vapor into an enclosed airspace to prevent corrosion on a metal product. This invisible layer of molecules attaches to the metal and protect it from rust. This creates a “ready-to-use”... See #1.

Decoustics - Integral Air Space Walls
...on the back side and a fabric or vinyl finish. Fabric corners are fully tailored (no exposed darting) and vinyl corners are heat sealed. Voids in panel back can be left as empty airspace or alternatively filled with a 1 to 3 pcf (16 to 48 kg/m3 ) light density fill. 2" (50 mm) Overall 4" (100 mm) Overall See Standards, Tests and Approvals 1. See #2.

PIMA
...asphalt roof shingles with polyiso insulation in steep slope roofing systems. The bulletin discusses the following design issues: Ventilation: Benefits of providing a ventilating airspace Shingle buckling: Steps to prevent shingle buckling Vapor and air leakage controls: Controlling vapor diffusion and air leakage Recommendations for installation:... See #3.

Window Glass Types and Treatments
...Two lites of 1/4" laminated glass in an IG unit with a 1/2" air space provide an STC rating of 42. This compares with two pieces of monolithic 1/4" glass in an IG unit with a 1/2" airspace the STC rating would be 35. Laminated glass eliminates 99.9% of ultraviolet rays, making it highly effective in protecting furnishings, displays, merchandise, etc. See #4.

Luxbaum: Custom Fixed Doors - Specifications
...1/8” total thickness, consisting of 3/16” heat strengthened glass with an SGP interlayment and a 3/16” heat strengthened glass, exterior light plus ½” airspace and an interior light 3/16” tempered glass. Glass is available as clear or in various tints. Sealant Silicone structural adhesive, elastomeric adhesive, ... See #5.

The Carpet Foundation
...an underfloor heating system in a 4m square by 3m high test chamber. The results showed that: none of the carpet/underlay combinations interfered with the efficient warming of the airspace in the room above The tested tog values of the carpets (using the test chamber as a life size 'tog' meter) were significantly lower than the previous... See #6.

Attic Radiant Barrier - Keep heating costs low with AFS-Foil.
...laminated to a substrate material which may be paper or some type of plastic product. Regardless of the substrate, all Radiant Barriers perform the same as long as the foil faces in airspace of at least ¾ inches on one side. A Radiant Barrier will work in both directions of heat flow, facing the heat source it reflects 95 to 97 percent of all... See #7.

Glossary of Terms
...frame and glass panel, which when fitted to a door in a formed or cut-out hole, creates a door with a glass opening. Double-Glazed: Outfitted with two panes of glass with a sealed airspace between. Drip Strip: In exterior doors, a fitting used across the outside face of the door adjacent to the bottom edge, to divert cascading rain away from... See #8.

Arch Aluminum & Glass - Your True Single Source®
...transfer in multilayer glazing is thermal radiation from a warm pane of glass to a cooler pane. Coating a glass surface with a low-emittance material and facing that coating to the airspace between the glass layers blocks a significant amount of this radiant heat transfer, thus lowering the total heat flow through the window. Low-E coatings... See #9.

Building at Colbond - Radon Control
...AC code Radon Control Enkavent 6128 is a radon venting product manufactured to mitigate (lesson) radon gas from under concrete and basement slab construction. Enkavent provides an airspace that intercepts radon before it seeps into the basement, crawlspace, or through the slab. • Reduces radon level up to 97% • Proven results since 1985... See #10.

ACOUSTIBLOK Best SOUNDPROOFING * Sound Insulation Materials
...onto Acoustiblok® installed on the ceiling and walls will further increase the db reduction. Resilient channel decouples the drywall from the structure and creates an added airspace between the drywall and Acoustiblok®. The airspace helps dissipate the pressure of the sound wave. Another benefit of Acoustiblok® treatment is the... See #11.

Kool Star, a Manufacturer of Walk-In Coolers, Freezers, Refrigerated and Heating Cabinets -...
...application is recommended for use only with walk-in cooler applications at temperature above freezing and installed at “grade”, no space or basement below the floor. Typical 2” airspace is required between building wall and walk-in to allow for air flow and building variance. Optional vinyl screed is available with this construction style. See #12.

LO/MIT Radiant Barrier Coating: Interior Applications (IRCCS)
LO/MIT (IRCCS) should be well mixed before use, and stirred or mixed as often as is practical during use to lessen pigment settling. LO/MIT must face a minimum 2" airspace, and it must be the last surface facing the airspace. Insulation directly adjacent to the LO/MIT surface should be backed off using 2" air baffles and... See #13.

Oldcastle Glass Insulating Glass Units Glass Insulating Glass Insulating Units
...What is Insulating Glass? Oldcastle Glass® Insulating Glass (IG) units are hermetically sealed combinations of two or more lites of glass separated by a dry airspace. IG units improve thermal performance, significantly reducing heating and air conditioning costs. IG units also reduce interior condensation in cold climates. See #14.
