...growth caused by a mass of small twigs that become trapped in the grain as the tree grows. Burl: Similar to a burr, but formed by injury to the tree, akin to scar tissue in humans. Cambium: A layer of cell that increases the girth of stems and roots. Characteristics: Attributes of a tree used for identification; colour, grain, hardness, lustre, ... See #1.

Flexible Materials
Different than a blister, which occurs after application Burl A swirl or twist in the grain of the wood which usually occurs near a knot or crotch but does not contain knot. Cambium A thin layer of tissue between the bark and the wood in a tree which repeatedly subdivides to form new wood and bark cells. Catalyst A hardener for resin adhesives. See #2.

 

Tree Growth
