CertainTeed Corporation’s roofing granule manufacturing
facility in Glenwood, Arkansas, has won the Saint-Gobain Diamond Safety Award for exemplary
health and safety performance. This is the second time the facility has been awarded the
prestigious honor and is one of only 25 sites worldwide to achieve the honor this year.
Saint-Gobain, the world’s largest building materials manufacturer and parent company of
CertainTeed, reviewed more than 1,000 company locations worldwide before selecting the top
25 plants in environmental, health and safety performance for 2005. The Diamond Award is
Saint-Gobain’s highest environment, health and safety award and is part of the manufacturer’s
wide-scale commitment to social responsibility and welfare of employees.
Since the award was established in 1990, CertainTeed has received it 11 times for safe operations
at various plants, the most of any of Saint-Gobain’s North American subsidiaries. Five of these
awards are for safety achievements at a number of CertainTeed roofing plants.
According to John Donaldson, President of CertainTeed Roofing, safety is a critical part of
CertainTeed’s operations. “I’m proud of the employees at Glenwood for making safety a priority
in all they do. It’s an exceptional group of people who have clearly excelled in safety while being
top performers in productivity as well. We thank and congratulate each member of the team for
their commitment to success,” he says.
"The Diamond Safety Award signifies the importance of safety in everyone’s lives, both on the
job and at home. It represents the dedication Saint-Gobain has to providing employees
worldwide safe places to work. I’m thrilled the Glenwood plant is receiving the honor once
again," says Mark Proffit, Plant Manager for the facility.
In addition to the Diamond Safety Award, the Glenwood plant has been inducted into the Saint-
Gobain Millionaires’ Club, which is part of a worldwide safety initiative honoring facilities that
have surpassed five years of operation without a lost-time accident, and has received numerous
Joseph A. Holmes Safety Association awards from the federal Mine Safety and Health
Administration. The company recently celebrated five years of operation without a single
recordable injury.
