Form-A-Drain®, CertainTeed Corporation's patented multi-functional polyvinyl chloride (PVC) foundation footing form, will be featured on an upcoming episode of HGTV Canada's "Holmes On Homes" television show.
Nov 19, 2006
The popular Canada-based home construction and renovation series recently filmed the installation of 1,400 feet of Form-A-Drain for a special two-hour prime time episode called "Lien On Me." The program is scheduled to air in early 2007. "Holmes on Homes" is broadcast on the Discovery Home Network for audiences in the United States, and can also bee seen in the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa.
Form-A-Drain was selected for easy installation and lower labor costs. Since Form-A-Drain is made of PVC, it can remain in place after the foundation is poured, meaning no laborers need return to the site to strip and clean metal or wood footing forms. And because Form-A-Drain forms a complete loop around a home's foundation, the hollow, slotted forms also serve as a superior groundwater drainage and radon reduction system.
"Form-A-Drain is a great system for this project because it has allowed us to remove the labor costs of stripping and cleaning forms," says "Holmes On Homes" Construction Coordinator Andrew Wood. "We also found it to be very light and easy to work with. With all of its advantages, it just made good sense for us to use Form-A-Drain on this project."
Says Steve Gross, Marketing Director for CertainTeed's Pipe & Plastics Group, "We are pleased to have the opportunity to work with 'Holmes On Homes' and show Form-A-Drain in action to television viewers in so many different countries. Form-A-Drain has saved contractors and homeowners a lot of time and headaches over the years because of its unparalleled three-in-one design it forms footings, drains foundations, vents radon and we look forward to sharing this message with a larger audience."
"Lien On Me" centers on a couple whose house was left unfinished by a contractor, who received almost $220,000 on a $200,000 contract, and then put a construction lien on the house for another $343,000, a crushing blow to the couple's finances. "Holmes On Homes" host Mike Holmes, has come to the rescue by rebuilding the house. This project has also inspired Holmes to found The Holmes Foundation, a non-profit organization that seeks to ensure home construction and renovation is done right the first time.
