(Valley Forge, Pa.) – A 30-year building industry veteran, Bartels & Missey Construction Company in St. Louis, Mo., is no stranger to success, with hundreds of commercial, residential and military projects under their belt. Regardless of their exceptional track record, the company was looking to sharpen their competitive edge.
In 2007, Bartels & Missey Construction was introduced to CertainTeed’s 5-Star Contractor program, a credentialed program for contractors working with vinyl and polymer shake siding as well as cellular PVC exterior trim, and immediately recognized it as a valuable tool.
“The 5-Star Contractor Program by CertainTeed provides thorough hands-on training with great attention paid to the technical aspects of siding application,” says Doug Bartels, Owner of Bartels & Missey Construction. “Our participation in the program is a tremendous selling tool and gives us a competitive advantage when bidding on projects.”
To achieve 5-Star status, Bartels & Missey Construction first completed the appropriate coursework and testing for CertainTeed’s Vinyl and Polymer Siding and Restoration Millwork Master Craftsman product knowledge and installation training programs. In addition, they participated in the Vinyl Siding Institute’s (VSI) Certified Installer Program, an in-depth and hands-on installation training course. A third-party administrator coordinates this program and provides an independent review of each participant’s qualifications, along with testing and verification of his company’s quality control programs.

Upon completion, Bartels & Missey Construction touted their new status and landed a major project at the Village Royale Apartments, also located in St. Louis. The renovation project called for 750 squares of CedarBoardsTM Single 7-inch insulated siding in Cypress as well as 260 squares of Cedar Impressions® Double 7-inch Straight Edge Rough-Split Shakes in Cypress. The project also uses CertainTeed WeatherBoardsTM FiberCement Siding and Restoration MillworkTM cellular PVC trim.
“Through the 5-Star Contractor program, CertainTeed provides contractors with the tools they need to reach a higher level of professionalism and proficiency,” says Doug Nyberg Director of Contractor Programs for the CertainTeed Siding Products Group. “We are thrilled to see contractors like Bartels & Missey Construction leverage the program to grow their business.”
In addition to technical training, contractors receive vehicle decals, business cards and other branded marketing and sales materials that identify their status as a 5-Star Contractor. CertainTeed also includes contractors in the company’s online contractor directory as a premier listing. For more information, visit www.certainteed.com.
