International VELUX Award 2010 Opens for Registration On 1 October 2009

The International VELUX Award challenges students of architecture from all over the world to explore and investigate daylight in architecture under the overall award theme Light of tomorrow. Registration for the 2010 Award opens on 1 October 2009.

Jul 13, 2009

The Award took place for the first time in 2004 and since then it has been a biennial event attracting a growing number of students from all over the world. In 2008, 686 entries were received, representing 244 schools of architecture in 46 countries.

The International VELUX Award encourages students of architecture to reflect on the role of daylight in architecture -- not just as a design component or external factor, but as a central architectural and sustainable issue that takes human needs and the rhythms and balances of nature into account.

The Award has no specific categories or requirements to the use of VELUX products in the projects. Students can freely investigate the role of daylight in the built environment whether in urban contexts, in individual buildings, or as a more abstract concept.

Last year Reilly O'Neil Hogan from Cornell University, USA, won first prize for his project Embodied Ephemerality. Ruan Hao and Xiang Xing from Tsinghua University, China, won second prize for their project Repairing Interface Light Festival.
