3Dconnexion supports CAD education program at 40th WorldSkills competition

3Dconnexion has announced plans to support the upcoming WorldSkills Calgary 2009 global event, the leading vocational training competition for young trades people, equipping all of the CAD workstations with its new SpacePilot™ PRO 3D mouse. Competitors participating in the prestigious CAD program will be using the SpacePilot PRO 3D mouse with Autodesk Inventor™, giving them added control and navigation over their 3D designs.

Aug 26, 2009

“The WorldSkills competition brings the best and the brightest CAD students together to compete on a global level, helping to achieve higher standards and push the possibilities of design,” said Dieter Neujahr, president of 3Dconnexion. “We are happy to participate in this program, and are committed to supporting and fostering the ongoing training and education of engineers within the CAD industry.”

The WorldSkills Competition hosts more than 900 skilled young people, ages 17 to 22, from skills, trades and technology programs in 51 countries and regions. Representing the best of their peers drawn from regional and national skill competitions, these aspiring individuals come together to compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in 45 skill categories ranging from bricklaying to Web design. Following the competition, the SpacePilot PRO 3D mice will be implemented into the Province of Alberta Equipment Legacy Program, where they will be used by secondary and post-secondary students throughout the province.

More about the 3Dconnexion SpacePilot PRO 3D mouse Unlike a traditional mouse confined to motion on one flat plane, the SpacePilot PRO enables design engineers to move in all three dimensions simultaneously, using six-degrees–of-freedom sensor technology. By gently lifting, pressing and turning the controller cap, design engineers can easily pan, zoom and rotate without stopping to select commands. Using the 3D mouse together with a traditional mouse engages both hands into a balanced and cooperative work style.

The SpacePilot PRO is the top-of-the-line professional 3D mouse designed to excel in today’s most demanding 3D software environments. The 3D mouse offers breakthrough features including second generation QuickView Navigation keys, dual-function Intelligent Function keys and at-a-glance access to important information via the full-color LCD Workflow Assistant.
